Virginia Treatment Center for Children

The Virginia Treatment Center for Children is the child and adolescent psychiatric service for VCU Medical Center. It offers an Acute Service and Intermediate Service for patients up to the age of 18.

The Acute Service is our short-term crisis unit for any child who is an imminent danger to himself or others. The intermediate program includes day treatment, residential treatment and deaf and hard of hearing residential treatment program. Clinical programs offer case management, medication management and nursing care, parent support and education, recreation, art, music and occupational therapy, group, family and individual therapy, psychiatric evaluation and treatment, planned community integration activities and behavioral management.

We also offer 10-day evaluations to provide intensive diagnostic services for clients who do not meet acute care criteria. The school program provides a free and appropriate education to all children and youth at VTCC.
