Radiology

An experienced clinician is able to utilize nursing processes to coordinate, assess, plan, implement, document and evaluate the care of patients undergoing radiological procedures. Radiology meets patient care needs for a diverse patient population in a procedure environment.

Patients include those from the following departments:

  • Intensive Care Units
  • Emergency Department
  • General Care Units
  • Pediatrics
  • Geriatrics
  • Outpatients having elective procedures

Radiology nurses provide physiologic monitoring, conscious sedation and coordination of care during interventional, procedures involving vascular interventional, neuro-interventional, diagnostic angiography, ultrasound, CAT scan and magnetic resonance imaging. Nuclear medicine provides cardiac imaging and use of injected isotopes giving the nurse a dynamic fast-paced environment. Stony Point Radiology, the Molecular Imaging Center in Gateway and the Imaging Center in the Ambulatory Care Center provide nurses with the opportunity for outpatient contact. Patient and family educational interactions occur pre-, intra- and post-procedures by nursing staff taking the lead role.
