Pediatric Intensive Care Unit

The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit is a 19-bed unit that provides continuous medical and nursing care for the critically ill pediatric patient. There are two levels of care given to patients in the PICU - intensive and intermediate. The patient population includes infants, children and adolescents. Medical diagnoses found in the PICU encompass all physiologic systems, most commonly those involving respiratory, neurological or cardiac compromise.

Surgical patients include cardiac, neurological, gastrointestinal, ENT, as well as liver transplants. As a designated Level I trauma center the unit cares for pediatric trauma patients.

Services are provided to the patient with the concept of family centered care in mind. Many ancillary services provide care to the patients including pastoral care, social work, occupational/physical therapy, child life and hospital education.
