Post Anesthesia Care Unit

Team nursing is practiced in the Operating Room. The registered nurse is responsible for total patient care. The Operating Room Suite at VCU Medical Center consists of 23 operating rooms meeting the needs of a major university medical center, a Level I Trauma Center and Burn Center.
The unit supports 14 surgical specialists including: oncology, gynecology, general pediatrics, plastics, otolaryngology, oral, vascular, transplant, orthopedics, cardiac, neurosurgery, urology and ophthalmology.
A minimum of one year of experience in an operating room environment and/or completion of a structural internship in perioperative nursing is required for employment in the operating room.
