Wishing you a holiday unlike any other

As 2023 comes to an end, VCU Health and VCU celebrate a year filled with many accomplishments and moments of joy.

In early December, the James W. Black Music Center at Virginia Commonwealth University was aglow with holiday spirit.

On a stage lit with 800 battery-operated candles, student musicians Arianna Greggs; violin, Rachel Dale; violin, Erick Dearhart; viola, and Kevin Nguyen; cello, brought to life an all-strings rendition of “Auld Lang Syne.” The four students are part of the Vela String Quartet, which is coached by Associate Professor of Music Susanna Klein.

The gentle song, so often associated with endings and new beginnings, aligned seamlessly with the end-of-year message President of VCU and VCU Health Michael Rao, Ph.D., wanted to convey to the VCU and VCU Health community.

“This has been an exceptional year thanks to all of you, with unparalleled accomplishments that we could have never imagined – all of which will benefit our students, our patients and our communities,” Rao said.

As we look back at 2023, we are incredibly grateful for our team members, who standby our patients and their families through every step of their treatment journey. Your unstoppable commitment to patient-centered care makes VCU Health one of the best places to receive care in the region.

From all of us at VCU Health and VCU, we wish you peace, happiness and a happy holiday season unlike any other.
