The American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association (AHA/ASA) recognized VCU Medical Center with the highest-level of achievement in their Get With The Guidelines®-Stroke program. For the ninth year in a row, VCU Medical Center achieved a GOLD PLUS performance achievement award for a continued commitment to quality and improving outcomes for stroke patients. For the fourth consecutive year, VCU Medical Center has earned a Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite Plus recognition.

The Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke program helps ensure that the care hospitals provide to patients aligns with the latest research-based guidelines, based on the latest scientific evidence. By achieving the highest award in the program – GOLD PLUS – VCU Medical Center has reached an aggressive goal of treating patients with greater than 85 percent compliance to core standard levels of care for nine consecutive years. Going beyond what it takes to achieve GOLD PLUS status, VCU Medical Center earned an additional 2019 Honor Roll Elite Plus recognition for surpassing the necessary requirements set forth by the AHA/ASA.

“These awards are a testament to our depth of expertise and high standards of care,” said Daniel Falcao, D.O., Interim Medical Director of the VCU Health Comprehensive Stroke Center. “The many years of recognition reflects the ongoing interdisciplinary and interdepartmental commitment to excellence by all of us at VCU Health who are dedicated to the care of patients with stroke and cerebrovascular disease and their families.”
