With several decades of experience in building equitable and innovative workplaces, VCU Health System Authority is excited to announce John Petrov will start as the health system’s Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) on August 20.

The leadership position plays a crucial role in developing and implementing human resource strategies in support of VCU Health’s business plan as well as diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) practices. Petrov will also serve as the chief human resources spokesperson for VCU Health and has full oversight for human resources operations.

“John is a transformative and strategic executive and comes to VCU Health with over 20 years of human resources experience, including serving in both health care and an academic medical center environment,” said Marlon Levy, M.D., interim CEO of VCU Health. “His expertise will ensure our priorities for the health system and organizational culture foster a diverse, equitable, inclusive and accessible workplace for all.”

He joins VCU Health from The Guthrie Clinic in Sayre, Pennsylvania, where he was the executive vice president and chief caregiver officer. In this role, he served as human resources leader for a system serving northern Pennsylvania and southern New York through a network of five hospitals and more than 325 community clinics, physician practices and specialty care facilities.

Under Petrov’s leadership and direction, The Guthrie Clinic made constant innovations in team member engagement and experience, culminating in the system’s recent selection as one of Becker’s Top 150 places to work in health care.

Petrov has a master's in human resource management from Briar Cliff University and is an active member of the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). Petrov has obtained the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Workplace Certificate from the USF Muma College of Business, is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources through the HR Certification Institute, and a SHRM-Senior Certified Professional.
