VCU Medical Center opens new ENT clinic in Colonial Heights
The VCU Medical Center has opened a new state-of-the-art ENT (ear, nose and throat) clinic in the Colonial Heights area. The clinic offers a full range of medical and surgical services for head and neck disorders and diseases to patients of all ages, from newborn infants to seniors.
“We recognized a need for additional community-based coverage for our specialty in the Tri-Cities area,” said Dr. Laurence DiNardo, chair of the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery. “With this clinic, patients will have access to a VCU Medical Center physician on a full-time basis with the resources of an academic medical center.”
Dr. Theodore A. Schuman, assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology – Head & Neck Surgery, is now accepting appointments at the clinic. Dr. Schuman provides comprehensive care for general adult and pediatric otolaryngology issues, including sinonasal disorders, hearing loss and chronic ear disease, obstructive sleep apnea and masses of the thyroid, head and neck.
Having a full-time otolaryngologist in the community will save patients the time and trouble of traveling to downtown Richmond for ENT services. A licensed audiologist is available onsite to provide hearing and balance testing and recommend and fit hearing aids. VCU eventually hopes to add allergy testing and treatment to the new clinic’s range of services.
A native of Maine, Dr. Schuman received his medical degree from Weill Medical College of Cornell University and completed his residency in otolaryngology at Vanderbilt University. He is enthusiastic about making his home in Richmond, where his wife grew up.
“My goal is for patients to get the absolute best quality of ear, nose and throat care in a setting that is very approachable, very easy to access and very personal,” Dr. Schuman said.
The Colonial Heights ENT clinic is located at 2035 Waterside Rd., off of Temple Avenue near Interstate 95. The VCU Medical Center provides ENT services at two additional clinics, one on the MCV Campus and the other at the Stony Point Surgery Center.
