After the Party’s Over started almost 20 years ago as a response of the Neuroscience ICU staff to the tragic wave of teenage drivers admitted to our unit. Many of our young patients died and others sustained permanent and devastating injuries that were preventable. This mobile community project visits our area high schools to provide life saving information to Driver’s Education Classes.

After the Party’s Over is a three part presentation designed to reduce destructive decisions and their consequences in our teenage population through:

  • education about risky behaviors;
  • realistic options; and
  • instruction on the proper use of restraint devices

Part 1 - is a PowerPoint collection of pictures set to music with narration. This segment takes the viewer through actual patient accident scenarios and their outcomes. It also includes what it would be like to be a patient in the ICU and rehabilitation.

Part 2 - is a discussion, question and answer section. Key topics include use and proper positioning of restraint devices, alcohol effects, reckless and distracted driving, legal and financial responsibilities and organ donation.

Part 3 - is a demonstration of what a typical critical care patient might experience. Always a favorite among students!
