Overview
Have you ever wondered what the thyroid gland does? Maybe
your neighbor has told you her brother has diabetes mellitus.
What is this? Where can you go to find health information
that is easy to understand?
We all need help in getting good, up-to-date information
from reliable sources about health and medicine.
The MCV Hospitals Auxiliary of the VCU Health System (VCUHS)
Community Health Education Center (CHEC) is able to give
you guidance to build on what you already know. You will
be able to make more informed choices when you have increased
knowledge.
Our motto is: Where Knowledge Empowers People.
Come to the VCUHS CHEC where staff and volunteers are guided
by our mission:
To foster the advancement and development of health knowledge
within the community.
The VCUHS, in partnership with the Medical College of Virginia
Hospitals Auxiliary of VCUHS and the VCU Libraries, welcomes
anyone with health-related questions.
Come "CHEC" us out.
A children's area has been incorporated into the CHEC. In
this special space, children have the opportunity of reading
and researching health issues at an age appropriate level.
Children 14 and under must be accompanied by an adult.
Assistance is provided by a trained health sciences librarian
and volunteers. We welcome your interest in our volunteer
program.
Visit our CHEC Information Board where support group meeting
announcements, articles of special interest, speaker announcements
and upcoming events are posted.
