About Richmond

The Center of Life

VCUHS is an urban teaching health system with a 31-acre footprint one block from Virginia’s Capitol Square in downtown Richmond. Our facilities include more than two million square feet of space in satellite locations surrounding the city and research capacity at the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park.

Our location places us at the very heart of what makes Richmond tick. The city's size and location, combined with our flexible scheduling and emphasis on maintaining a healthy work-life balance, means you can mesh opportunities for rest and relaxation with the demands of professional life.

Richmond is a cityscape of culture: a blend of historic residential neighborhoods, museums, shopping and businesses. It is home to the Governor of Virginia, the Richmond Symphony, the ballet, the theatre, the Library of Virginia, AAA baseball, championship basketball and tennis, and a host of other cultural attractions.

Opportunities for outdoor recreation include rock climbing and whitewater rafting, fishing and bicycle riding, golf and horseback riding. And there are dozens of restaurants from well-seasoned lunch counters and one-of-a-kind pushcart vendors to critically acclaimed restaurants. Plus, we're at the crossroads of Interstates 64 and 95, two hours from the mountains and two hours from the beach and Washington, D.C.

In 2004, Richmond was named one of 11 mid-sized cities that are “The Most Livable” by Partners for Living Communities. Learn more about this honor at http://www.mostlivable.org.
