Because we are the community’s leader in health care, VCUHS is a completely tobacco free campus The policy means that patients, visitors and employees are prohibited from smoking anywhere inside or outside the grounds of the VCU Medical Center and its affiliated locations. Cessation programs are available for all employees who are currently using tobacco products.

Our Caring Service Begins with Me. This is our culture. This is our passion. It's visible in each of us every minute of every day. If these walls could talk, you would see what we mean. And you can learn more about our culture for providing exemplary customer service by reviewing our team member guide, the STAR Service "Little Gold Book." At VCUHS, we are committed to providing the highest caliber of customer service to our patients, visitors, community and each other.

VCUHS is composed of a 600-strong physician practice, numerous outpatient clinics and our hospital, which has 856 licensed beds. We are a regional referral center for the state and the region's only Level 1 Trauma Center. Many of our 200 clinical specialty areas are of national and international acclaim.

Since 2011, VCUHS has included Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR), one of our flagship clinical enterprises. CHoR remains the region's only full-service children's hospital. CHoR's iconic facility on Brook Road remains a primary location for several outpatient services, along with the Transitional Care Unit. To supplement these services, construction of a new Children's Pavilion -- on VCUHS's downtown MCV Campus -- is currently underway. Slated for completion in 2015, this structure will be the largest and most advanced outpatient facility for children in the central Virginia region. The 640,000 square-foot facility will house 72 exam rooms, a surgical area with two operating rooms and two procedure rooms; and areas for diagnostic testing, imaging and laboratory services.

In addition, effective July 1, VCUHS also will include the VCU Community Memorial Hospital in South Hill, VA. With this exciting addition, we will increase our pool of talented team members by about 800, including 85 physicians representing 30 medical specialties. We also are fortunate to welcome approximately 200 new volunteers! The best part of all is that we will be able to serve more patients and communities while offering even more teaching, learning and research opportunities.
