About Us

Growth, Innovation, Community

With an estimated 1 million citizens calling the Richmond, VA, region home, VCUHS serves the unique health care needs for more than 82,000 individual patients each year.

We are engrained in the region’s community that includes the City of Richmond and four neighboring counties: Chesterfield, Hanover, Henrico and New Kent.

Thanks to progressive planning, visionary leaders and dedicated employees, VCUHS is poised to grow with the region and its citizens’ changing health care needs as it has since 1838.

History has been a part of the Richmond region for nearly 400 years. Many people don’t realize that Richmond’s founding occurred in 1607, the same year settlers first landed at Jamestown about 60 miles to the east of the capital city.

The Virginia State Capitol in Richmond is home to the oldest English-speaking legislative body in the Western Hemisphere. Our city boasts the first state-supported art museum in the United States and the Southeast’s largest — the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts.

Anchored in the center of historic Richmond with locations in surrounding areas, VCUHS has evolved for more than 165 years with the changing needs of its patients. Our compassionate care and innovative spirit fueled by great people have empowered us to become a nationally and internationally renowned specialty care and research institution.

As a Level I Trauma Center, a Carnegie Foundation Level I Research University, a National Cancer Institute Cancer Center, and one of the nation's "Top 100 Hospitals*," VCUHS also is ranked first among area consumers when it comes to choosing healthcare.

For our employees this means you’ll find a challenging career here packed with new opportunities, technologies and professional development delivering the best possible health care to all types patients from Virginia and around the world.

We hope that you’ll join us as we continue to make medical history.
