Child Mental Health

You may be surprised to learn that mental health problems occur commonly among today’s youth and begin at a young age. Approximately 20% of all Children will suffer from a mental health problem, and 5 to 7% will have severe, persistent problems throughout their lives. According to an article from the National Center for Children in Poverty, one in 10 youth has mental health problems that are severe enough to impair how they function at home, school, or in the community.

How You Can Help

Many families that are dealing with mental health problems find themselves in circumstances which limit their ability to provide their children and adolescents a joyous holiday season. At VTCC we strive to make sure that children in our care enjoy the holidays. You can help by:

  · Donating items listed on the General Wish List

  · Join our dedicated volunteers to plan programs and events, and advocate for child mental health throughout the year

Although your help is needed and greatly appreciated during the Holiday season, we also need toys, games, socks, underwear and other items throughout the year. Many of these items will be used for rewards, birthday gifts, and to support daily living activities.
