The VCU Children’s Medical Center, which encompasses the Department of Pediatrics, is the only full-service comprehensive pediatric health care facility in Central Virginia. The center is dedicated to improving child health through research, education and state-of-the-art clinical care.

As a “hospital-within-a-hospital,” the Children’s Medical Center embraces a full array of pediatric medical specialties, surgical services and ancillary medical care essential to meeting the diverse and complex needs of critically ill or injured children and adolescents. Our pediatric team consists of a comprehensive network of primary care physicians, specialists, surgeons, therapists and ancillary medical staff, all of who are specifically trained to care for children.

Pediatric outpatient services are provided at the Children’s Pavilion, Nelson Clinic, Stony Point, Hayes E. Willis Health Center and St. Mary’s Hospital.

Inpatient facilities consist of 62 beds that serve the infant, toddler, pre-school and adolescent populations, a 12-bed pediatric intensive care unit, a 25-bassinet well baby nursery and a 44-bed neonatal intensive care unit.

At the Children’s Medical Center, we believe in treating the whole child, not just the illness. Support services include Child Life, Hospital Education, Social Services, Care Coordination, Pastoral Care, Chaplain Services, Care Connection for Children, patient advocacy programs, Safe Kids of Virginia and Emergency Medical Services for Children.
