In the Fall of 2008, VCUHS announced that for the fourth time, Working Mother magazine awarded us a spot on the prestigious "100 Best Companies for Working Mothers" list. This national distinction is bestowed upon companies that demonstrate a profound commitment to working mothers through innovative programs that help women achieve meaningful work/life balance. The achievement symbolizes our commitment to offer all our employees a work environment that listens and responds to their unique needs. VCUHS provides more than 400 work/life balance programs, policies and offerings to our employees.
In the Fall of 2007, VCUHS was proudly named one of Richmond’s 15 Great Places to Work by Richmond Magazine. The annual ranking is based on information gleaned from more than 450 companies in the Richmond area with 50 or more employees. The survey is geared toward gauging overall work environments and benefits packages. Surveys were reviewed by Richmond Magazine staff as well as an independent panel of human resources experts.
In the Spring of 2008, VCUHS was honored to be named Greater Richmond’s Employer of Choice for the third year in a row. The award recognizes employers who create a positive and desired workplace and embody a set of principles that are cherished and honored in a culture that is well defined. The award further is bestowed upon organizations that distinguish themselves as leading employers.
During the Spring of 2008, we also received the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation award for Business Excellence in Workplace Flexibility for the second year in a row. This award acknowledges organizations that view flexibility as a critical ingredient to workforce effectiveness. The award honors organizations that are aware of, understand and utilize workplace flexibility as a business strategy.
In the Spring of 2007 and 2008, the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) announced that VCUHS is one of 30 companies in the nation demonstrating a commitment to advancing women throughout the ranks of our organization. We are further honored to be one of the top 5 not-for-profit organizations. The NAFE designation is based on female representation among top salaried and top ranking positions. Additionally, the ranking measures the total number of female employees in the organization, females in management and female representation on the board of directors.
Additionally, The Center for Companies That Care again named VCUHS to its 2008 Companies That Care (CTC) Honor Roll. The CTC designation gives a nod to VCUHS’ commitment to improving the lives of employees as well as the overall community.
